In the early 1980s, Wakefield Theatre Club became Pussycat Club. It was also known as 'Pussycats' for short. It continued to run as a popular cabaret and night club.
The singer and TV star, Jane Macdonald, famously worked as a barmaid at the Pussycat Club before finding fame on cruise ships.

The Pussycat Club closed in 1989. The building became a bowling alley and Wimpy restaurant. It was eventually demolished in 2014.
