Home Education: Bayeux Tapestry - Live Broadcast (7 to 14)

You may have heard or seen that the British Museum is displaying the Bayeux Tapestry, 10 September 2026 to 1 July 2027. 

The British Museum is providing a live broadcast to schools to coincide with the 960th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Pontefract Castle has signed up to enable us to share the experience with Home Educating families for free. 

You will need to book a place for both children and adults to attend. We will have a reserve list in place should we reach capacity. 

Duration of the broadcast is one hour; we will be opening the Activity Zone doors a little earlier to ensure everyone is ready for the broadcast to start at 10.30am. 

The British Museum hope this provides a way for learners who can't visit the museum in person to discover more about the tapestry. The live broadcast is delivered in partnership with the British Library, English Heritage and Norwich Museum Service.

Optional afternoon workshop:

We are also running an optional bookable, paid workshop in the afternoon to complement the broadcast. 

Textile crafting - ages 7+: Extend your day at Pontefract Castle and be inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry to create your own textiles. 

You can attend either session as a standalone workshop. If you are attending both sessions, you are welcome to eat lunch in the Activity Zone - you can bring a packed lunch or purchase food/hot drinks from The Keep Café.
