Get creative and discover a new side to Pontefract! Join us for a welcoming poetry workshop and walk. We're celebrating our latest exhibition Picturing Pontefract.
This session has been designed for anyone aged 10+. It's perfect for families with older children, budding teen writers, or adults that are still kids at heart! All children under 16+ must be accompanied by an adult. There is also a separate adults-only workshop for ages 18+.
Join Pontefract Museum and Lindsey Marie from Black Horse Poets Society for a poetry walk around Pontefract. We’ll start at the museum with a brief introduction. We'll then head out on a walk around some of the places featured in the exhibition. At each stop you’ll be given creative prompts and encouragement to develop your own poetry and ideas. The walk will end back at Pontefract Museum. You’ll have the chance to share what you have written or listen to other people’s work.
If you’ve ever wanted to get creative with words, but not sure where to start, then this could be the workshop for you!
This workshop is for ages 10+.
“Really interesting mix of history and creativity. Hosts were both really knowledgeable and inspiring. Very enjoyable morning that will lead to more creativity! Thankyou both so much.”
“Just wanted to say thanks again to you and Lindsey for putting on such a great event. It has re-awakened the poet inside me!”
The walk will take place in a small loop around centre of Pontefract. Most of the route is level and we will be following pavements. Please be aware that paths and pavements can be uneven in places, with some cobbled street surfaces. There is no seating available on this walk. The walk will take place outside. Please be prepared and dress for the weather. Bring any water or food you may need.
If you have any questions around accessibility please get in touch at museumslearning@wakefield.gov.uk
This workshop is part of the public programme for Pontefract Museum’s latest Special Exhibition, Picturing Pontefract. Explore the town through the eyes of artists, craftspeople and map makers. Discover different views: past and present, lifelike and imagined.
